Pixar names its main office building in dedication to former CEO Steve Jobs

Pixar names its main office building in dedication to former CEO Steve JobsPixar, the makers of superb films like Monsters Inc. and more recently Brave has named its main office building in honor of the late Steve Jobs. The building which is part of the Pixar campus now proudly displays the sign ?The Steve Jobs Building?, the new comes from Pixar Times.

On Twitter, a Pixar employee shared an image taken by a friend, stating that the building had been named ?The Steve Jobs Building.? Peering in through the windows, you can clearly see the outline of Sulley, confirming that this is the main building that Steve Jobs himself played a major role in designing.

He came up with the idea that the building should be centered around a large atrium, which would lead to accidental collaboration that may not occur if everyone was stuck in their individual offices. I find this to be the perfect way to honor the legacy of Steve Jobs. Placing his name above the main building not only reminds those who walk through the entrance of his importance to the formation of the studio, but is also a meaningful representation of his influence on the famed building.

This is a well-deserved dedication as Pixar was in a lot of trouble before Steve Jobs stepped in and financed the work of the studio before it became profitable. He put a lot of his own money into Pixar?s projects believing in the employee?s ; he was right to do so. Without his help, we may never have had the chance to enjoy brilliant movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Wall-E; now that input will never be forgotten.

VC Runa Capital Invests $2.5M Series A In 'Pinterest For Video ...

Russian video sharing startup, ClipClock???which is being billed as a ?Pinterest for video clips? ? has snagged a $2.5 million investment from VC firm Runa Capital. The startup, which was founded in January and launched its website and mobile app at the DEMO Fall 2012 Conference?last month, allows users to collect their favourite video clips and share them through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Here?s how the startup was billed at the DEMO conference

ClipClock allows users to collect and share the best clipped video moments. This saves users time ? as they no longer have to scroll through and search long videos. Instead, they can watch videos at the exact right moment(s). Clips are easily discovered through search and shared through social media

The startup said the investment will be used to support?the development of ?advanced functionality? in its products, and also to drive user growth via things like direct ad and sponsored stories on Facebook, ?viral distribution? and signing new Facebook and YouTube partners.

In terms of product development, ClipClock said a big update to its iOS app is on the way, while it?s also starting development on Android and Windows Phone 8 apps. Marketing is another key focus for it with the new funding round ? aka building a community of video sharers. ?We have?just started with that,? ClipClock Founder & CEO, Alex Krainov, tells TechCrunch. ?We just introduced the new approach of socially created video stream based on videos from users? Facebook news feeds and now we will start working on the content optimization, rankings.?

To date, ClipClock has attracted a $50,000 investment from Microsoft?s Seed Fund (which explains its early focus on building a WP8 app; it also hosts on Microsoft?s Azure platform) and $200,000 from Business Angels, along with Runa?s $2.5 million investment ? bringing its total investment to $2.75 million.

ClipClock works over existing video services such as YouTube and Vimeo, by streaming videos from them and ?enhancing? the user experience. It is also making clips available through search engine queries to drive views. Other growth strategies include using features such as user ratings, friends invitations and relevant video recommendations to boost use and views.

?ClipClock saves time and effort in finding interesting content and watching only interesting pieces of video clips, discovering video clips and sharing opinion around exact moments,? said Gaidar?Magdanurov, Investment Director at Runa Capital, in a statement. ?We are excited to partner with ClipClock and will put our energy into growing the user base and global expansion of the service.?

ClipClock - is the video time-tagging service. Users can collect, share and search most relevant video moments of online video placed on most popular platforms on Internet.

Home Improvement ? Making a Home That Works ? White Folks Get ...

A home improvement project is a thing that everyone needs to enter on. Even if you want the thoughts of each person in the home, staying with things that work can be your number one priority. The difference between families that appreciate each other?s company is quite frequently as easy as a that works for each of them. This informative article will probably speak just a little about home improvements that work. With this said not all things works for everyone. You?ll need to check into what?s planning to benefit you.A family with children may want a research stop near to the kitchen with computer access. Quite often mixing a table with a morning meal place works really well. Making this region between your kitchen and your household room may be an alternative that many of people may not have considered. It works perfect for the children and the adults. This way you can go about doing all your work or calming while being in the area to manage the kids.Your living room could even have a TV or game console if you need. Basements are good for theater areas, laundry room and big play areas.I have seen a lot of domiciles that have an income room that?s much to little to be of any real use and they should have that additional room in the attic. An extra room can certainly be changed into a library or office that will give the great place to you to get some work done without the disruption of the sound in the rest of your home.As for the sack your master is suggested by me being as possible as large. This will be your escape. Set it up with a small seating area that you can enjoy a very intimate house with your spouse. Some people also would rather add a small desk with a computer in the master suite. Although I?ve never been a fan of having a work area in my own room, you can quickly conceal it behind an area and never understand it?s there until you want to use it.You can not just forget about your dining room it?s one of the most important areas of the home. It has been established that a family that dines together is more stimulating and gets along better in the long run. Allow it to be a spot you?ll all like to come together to take pleasure from each other?s conversation.Work at creating a home that?s as unique as your family. When everyone in the family is pleased you?ll understand you have a home that works.

Royal couple has car trouble in Papua New Guinea

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were subject to an average man's stall when their vehicle failed to start during a visit to Papua, New Guinea. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

By NBC News staff

The Prince of Wales and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, had some car trouble during their official visit to Papua New Guinea, abandoning their vehicle after it broke down in Port Moresby, The Telegraph reported.

When their black Mercedes wouldn't start, the royal couple waited a few minutes and then transferred to a silver Range Rover.

Earlier in the day, Prince Charles visited the Hohola Youth Development Centre, The Telegraph reported, while Camilla visited the Haus Ruth Women's Refuge.

The couple then reunited at Remembrance Park for a wreath-laying ceremony.

After changing cars, Prince Charles and his wife boarded a plane for Queensland, Australia, for the next leg of their Diamond Jubilee tour, which is scheduled to last for six days, according to The Telegraph. The royal couple will also visit New Zealand to mark the Queen's 60-year reign.

A Challenge For A Healthy Holiday | Fitness, Health and Happiness

With half marathon #12 of Twelve In Twenty-Twelve this weekend I will be winding down successful completion of [most of] my 2012 health and fitness goals! I know myself well enough to know that without goals or a plan it will become way too easy to get off track especially during the holiday season. Don?t forget the stress that can come with the holidays. Staying on track with nutrition and fitness is one of the best ways to keep stress at a minimum. I?m sure you will agree that we don?t want to be another US statistic on holiday weight gain and stress! Right?

Join The Holiday Challenge

So, what?s my plan for staying motivated, active and healthy during the holiday season? I?m joining Amanda at Run To the Finish for another round of the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge. This isn?t a diet or workout plan. It?s?motivation, encouragement, information and support!

This little challenge started 5 years ago and grew to over 1,000 participants last year with $3,000 prizes.?Each year Amanda hears from participants about the ways in which their lives have changed from committing to this fun program. People have gone from walking around the block to running their first 5K; from finishing their only 5K to deciding to complete a half marathon; from dreading the holiday food season to being shocked at losing weight.

Why is this challenge so effective?
Community: Change is easier together. When you see someone else who never worked out in the morning suddenly getting up every day or someone who has declared they hate vegetables trying to incorporate them you realize that change is possible. You may also be thinking ?If he/she can do it, then I sure can!?

Competition: No one likes to lose. You may not be overly competitive, but somewhere inside there is the drive to do just a little more than the person next to you?admit it you?ve been on the treadmill at some point and thought I can go faster or longer than so and so next to me.? Being competitive is a good thing when it comes to our health, as it can drive us to make changes or stick to a schedule.

Habits: HBBC provides a structure where other habits can also begin to flourish. It sounds silly, but something as simple as tracking your workouts and fruit/veggie servings every day starts to create habits. Suddenly you are thinking of ways to work in movement or add a vegetable to your afternoon snack.? Studies have shown that what we measure we change because it allows us to focus on a particular area and fix anything that is not working.

Experts: This year has the added benefit of experts on board to answer questions. If you are concerned adding mileage or trying cross fit, they will be available in the private Facebook Group to help you make the best choice.? When they aren?t answering questions, experts will also be providing tips on the website for workouts, injury prevention and healthy food swaps.

Pay Up: The November issue of Runner?s World had an article that also explains why this year will be even better. When you pay for a race or to join a challenge, you feel committed to getting the most out of it so you don?t lose that money. HBBC unlike a race could actually end up paying you since there are weekly prizes and grand prizes based solely on participation!

If you?d like to know more about the challenge and all the great things it includes like ask an expert (including Deena Kastor), #bestfoot instagram pics and tweet chats checkout HolidayBootieBusterChallenge.com for details.

Still thinking about it? How about a discount for registration? Amanda is generously offering a $5 discount to all Fitness, Health and Happiness readers who join. Not only that! Last week I shared that I started Best Body Bootcamp at Tina Reale?s Best Body Fitness. Well, everyone that signs up for the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge will also receive a $5 discount to register for the next round of Best Body Bootcamp that is scheduled to start on January 7. How?s that for a jump start on 2013 health and fitness goals!!

Did I mention the prizes? The seriously cool prizes include companies like Oakley, Asics, Running Skirts, Gap, Free Motion and more. I can speak personally about Oakley, Running Skirts, Gap and Free Motion. Those prizes alone are reasons to register!

To register, go to?Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge?[or click the image below], ?select ?Referred by Fitness, Health and Happiness? and the discount will be automatically applied.

?

Mark your calendars: CHALLENGE STARTS ON NOV 19?

I received a free registration to join the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge. All thoughts and opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way but the organizer of this event.

Fla. remains tough sell to end for Obama, Romney

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? To the last minute, Florida is proving to be an expensive and frustrating state for President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney alike, seemingly resistant to arguments that play well in Ohio, Colorado and other states.

For all the talk of Florida leaning Republican, both nominees are making stops here in the campaign's final 40 hours, a testament to its uncertainty. Their campaigns and allies have poured $130 million into Florida TV ads.

Florida is a tough sell for Obama's national message of steady economic recovery, because its unemployment and foreclosure rates remain above the national average. The auto industry bailout ads airing in Ohio would make little sense here.

And Obama's standard remarks to Hispanics don't resonate so well in Florida because its two largest Hispanic groups, Cubans and Puerto Ricans, are exempt from immigration laws that Mexican-Americans and others intensely follow.

These factors played into Obama's decision to make his strongest battleground stand in Ohio, which has 18 electoral votes to Florida's 29. And they prompted Republicans to hope Romney would lock up Florida early.

But a well-organized Democratic ground game, and a population that's increasingly non-white, have given Obama hope of winning Florida narrowly and all but assuring his re-election.

"I think it's too close to call," said Jerrold Kronenfeld, 68, an Obama volunteer who attended Friday's rally by former President Bill Clinton in Palm Bay, Fla.

Kronenfeld wore a "Jews for Obama" button, and he said it was frustrating to see Romney pursue Jewish votes by portraying Obama as unfriendly to Israel.

The sometimes sharp exchanges over Israel are just one example of campaign bitterness that has spilled over in this sprawling state, the biggest of the toss-up prizes.

Republican Gov. Rick Scott and the GOP-controlled legislature curtailed early voting this year and took other steps that Democrats say were designed to suppress voting in heavily Democratic areas.

After people waited for hours to vote in south Florida on Saturday, the last day of early voting, the state Democratic Party filed a federal lawsuit seeking more voting time Sunday. Local officials allowed it on a limited basis. But some would-be voters gave up when facing six-hour waits Saturday, poll watchers said, and similar problems could arise Tuesday.

A Florida judge extended early voting hours in one central Florida county on Sunday after Democrats sued to allow more time. An early voting site in Orange County was closed for several hours Saturday after a suspicious package was found outside and later detonated by a local bomb squad. The state Republican Party decided not to challenge the decision.

If Obama loses Florida by a hair, partisan recriminations seem inevitable.

Florida's unemployment rate ? 8.7 percent, compared to the nation's 7.9 percent ? would seem to help Romney's economic argument against Obama.

"Jobs, the economy, that's it," said Tammy Celeste, chairwoman of the Romney campaign in Osceola County, explaining why independents and some Democrats walk into the Kissimmee office to make phone calls for the GOP nominee.

And yet Romney has been forced to spend precious time and money in Florida from the very start. He campaigned Wednesday in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville. He was in Sanford, north of Orlando, on Monday morning. First lady Michelle Obama will be in Orlando in the evening.

"We can begin a better tomorrow tomorrow," Romney said Monday in central Florida.

Obama adviser David Plouffe taunted the former Massachusetts governor Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

"A few weeks ago, Gov. Romney's campaign was saying, 'Oh, we're going to win Florida, we're going to win Virginia,'" Plouffe said. "On Monday, the day before the election, Gov. Romney is going to Florida and Virginia. Why? Because he's at great risk of losing those states."

Obama made his last Florida campaign stop Sunday afternoon, before about 23,000 people south of Fort Lauderdale. As usual, he accused Romney of having said Clinton's tax and spending policies would hurt the economy.

"Turns out his math then was just as bad as it is now," Obama said.

Both parties take comfort in selected details about Florida's early voting and absentee balloting. Democrats have an advantage, but Republicans say it is smaller than it was in 2008.

While Democratic activists delight in Romney's struggles, even some people who go to pro-Obama events aren't confident the president will carry the state.

"I think it's probably going to go for Romney," said Greg Harman, 46, who attended the Clinton rally in Palm Bay. He said he voted for Obama in 2008, but is disappointed that the president hasn't done more to protect Americans from domestic surveillance.

This year, Harman said: "I'm on the fence."

Unemployment rates in Palm Beach County, 2008 vs. now. In 2008, the unemployment rate in Palm Beach County was 7.8%.? Unfortunately, it is now 9.8%. This is an increase of 25.6%.
