Alastair Cook confident of a turnaround in Mumbai ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part III ? November 22, 2012

England skipper Alastair Cook has admitted that the nine-wicket crushing at the hands of India in Ahmedabad has jolted his team?s confidence; however he was optimistic about making a strong comeback in the second Test, which starts in Mumbai on Friday.

The English batting line-up was badly exposed against Indian spinners, Pragyan Ojha and R Ashwin, in the series opener, managing just 191 runs in their first innings, while chasing India?s mammoth 521-run total. Red hot Ojha scythed through the visiting line-up returning with career best figures of 9 for 165.

Only skipper Cook and wicketkeeper batsman Matt Prior showed some application against the Indian spinners, that too in the second innings, sharing a 156-run stand between them to salvage the side from an innings crushing.

?Clearly it was tough on confidence when you get beaten in a heavy manner,? Cook said while speaking to media reporters on the eve of the second Test. ?The beauty of the game is such quick turnaround. Now we have got the chance and the opportunity to try and put it right. That is what we will have to do. We have to try and learn from last week and play well," he added further.

Former Australian Test batsman Marcus North has been appointed as the Glamorgan captain for the Clydesdale Bank 40 and the Friends Life T20 campaign next season.

North, 33, replaces wicketkeeper batsman wicketkeeper batsman Mark Wallace at the helm in the CB40 competition and Jim Allenby in the Flt20 tournament. The left-handed middle-order batsman led Australia?s domestic T20 side Perth Scorchers to two esteemed trophies ? Big Bash League title and the Champions League T20 trophy ? in less than a year?s time.

While speaking to media reporters after his appointment, North hoped the extra responsibility would bring the best out of him as captain and player. "I'm honoured to be recognised by the management and to be given the chance to captain Glamorgan in limited-overs formats," North said. "The facilities and resources in Cardiff are fantastic," he added further.
