Free Legal Question: Criminal Law | Georgia | I was at a red light ...

I was at a red light facing south, and a police office was at the red light facing north. I just had new tires put on my truck, and when I hit the gas, I made a slight "screech." But, no burn marks, smoke, and the vehicle never left a straight line. I was pulled over for "laying drag..GA 40-6-251"

But, according to GA 40-6-251..

"(a) No driver of any motor vehicle shall operate the vehicle upon the public streets, highways, public or private driveways, airport runways, or parking lots in such a manner as to create a danger to persons or property by intentionally and unnecessarily causing the vehicle to move in a zigzag or circular course or to gyrate or spin around, except to avoid a collision or injury or damage.

(b) The offenses described in this Code section shall be sufficiently identified on any traffic ticket, warrant, accusation, or indictment when referred to as 'laying drags.'

(c) This Code section shall not apply to drivers operating vehicles in or on any raceway, drag strip, or similar place customarily and lawfully used for such purposes.

(d) Any person violating subsection (a) of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. "

However, he code mentions no mention of "noise", "smoke", or even "laying rubber."

And my vehicle never.. "zigzag or circular course or to gyrate or spin around"

To makes things worse, after I was pulled over, I found out my license was suspended, due to missing TWO child support payments. I was never informed by mail, email, or telephone.

How should I proceed with the case, and what types of questions could I ask the officer?

If I can prove that the officer had no reason to pull me over according to Georgia code, can I also then argue he would of never knew my license was suspended, and so on?

Access to MUBI directly from my Sony Bravia TV

Im trying to link Mubi to my Sony Entertainment account so I can watch it on my Bravia TV; however I cant make the link. I have a Mubi account (30 day free trial) and I can see the Mubi movie options on my TV but when I choose a movie it says I have to link Mubi to Sony Essentials which doesnt exist anymore. It also says I need to go to http://internet.sony.tv/MUBI but this has not helped much either.

Is there anything I can do or do I need to use a third device? If so it is very disappointing that you suggest Mubi is available through the TV when it isnt and I have wasted my time.

LG Korea: No problems with Nexus 4 supply

Android Central

Getting hold of an LG Nexus 4 through Google's official device store hasn't been an easy task. It's been two months since release day, and throughout most of that time the device has been either sold out or on back-order. It's safe to say that the Google Play buying experience has been less than ideal for many.

Before the holidays Google UK boss Dan Cobley blamed "scarce and erratic" Nexus 4 supplies for some of the issues faced by would-be Nexus buyers. However if recent quotes from LG officials in the Korean press are to be believed, the issues don't lie in the manufacturing or supply side. Korean news outlet Chosun Ilbo quotes LG officials as saying the company has "no problems" supplying Nexus 4s through its Pyeongtaek manufacturing plant.

The quoted officials also took the opportunity to dismiss some of the crazier Nexus 4 rumors to have surfaced in recent days, including unsubstantiated reports that LG had scaled back or stopped N4 production in favor of a new, spicier Nexus. These rumors were described as "unfounded."

Whatever's actually going on between LG and Google, the Nexus 4 is available to buy through other sources, including carriers like O2 and Three in the UK and T-Mobile in the States. So any issues are preventing more Play Store stock from arriving don't seem to be affecting wider supplies of the handset. In any case, with more back-ordered Nexus 4s arriving every day, our fingers are firmly crossed for a fresh influx of Play Store stock in the near future.

U.S. ordered delay in illegal immigrant intern's arrest

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Federal immigration agents were prepared to arrest an illegal immigrant and registered sex offender days before the November elections but were ordered by Washington to hold off after officials warned of "significant interest" from Congress and news organizations because the suspect was a volunteer intern for Sen. Robert Menendez, according to internal agency documents provided to Congress.

The Homeland Security Department said last month, when The Associated Press first disclosed the delayed arrest of Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta, that AP's report was "categorically false."

Sanchez, 18, was an immigrant from Peru who has overstayed a visitor visa that allowed him to enter the United States. He eventually was arrested at his home in New Jersey on Dec. 6. He has since been released from an immigration jail and is facing deportation. Sanchez has declined to speak to the AP.

After the AP story, which cited an unnamed U.S. official involved in the case, Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa and six other Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee asked the Obama administration for details about the incident.

According to those documents, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Newark had arranged to arrest Sanchez at the local prosecutor's office on Oct. 25. That was fewer than two weeks before the election.

Noting that Sanchez was a volunteer in Menendez's Senate office, ICE officials in New Jersey advised that the arrest "had the possibility of garnering significant congressional and media interest" and were "advised to postpone the arrest" until officials in Washington gave approval. The documents describe a conference call between officials Washington and New Jersey to "determine a way forward, given the potential sensitivities surrounding the case."

The senators, in a letter to the Homeland Security Department, said the agency documents showed that Sanchez's arrest "was delayed by six weeks," as AP had reported. They asked for details about the department's review of potentially sensitive, high profile immigration cases when arrests are delayed.

In a letter Monday, Assistant DHS Secretary Nelson Peacock said an allegation that the government delayed Sanchez's arrest "for political purposes" was categorically false. Neither the unnamed U.S. official cited in AP's original story or the senators in their letters to the department had specifically alleged that the arrest had been delayed for political purposes. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because this person was not authorized to discuss details of Sanchez's immigration case, told AP last month that the department had instructed federal agents not to arrest Sanchez until after Election Day.

The documents provided to Congress do not indicate why the arrest should have been delayed or whether anyone outside Immigration and Customs Enforcement ? such as in the headquarters offices of the Homeland Security Department ? was consulted.

Menendez, D-N.J., who advocates aggressively for pro-immigration policies, was re-elected on Nov. 6 with 58 percent of the vote. Menendez said last month that his staff was notified about the case immediately before AP's story, he learned about the case from the AP and he knew nothing about whether or why DHS had delayed the arrest.

According to police records, Sanchez was 15 when he was arrested on a charge of aggravated sexual assault in 2009. The records show he was accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy at least eight times and sentenced to two years' probation and required to register as a sex offender. The AP is not reporting the boy's relationship to Sanchez to avoid identifying the victim.

The agency documents show that Sanchez failed to update his sex offender registration, and local prosecutors considered arresting him for that. During the same time, immigration officials learned that Sanchez had applied for the Obama administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which would have allowed him to stay in the country and legally work for two years. He did not disclose his arrest or status as a sex offender on the application and was eventually denied, according to the documents.

Immigration enforcement operations in New Jersey were largely halted starting Oct. 28 as officials prepared for Hurricane Sandy. By Nov. 29, ICE had planned to arrest Sanchez after Citizenship and Immigration Services had formally denied his deferred action application. The following day, the ICE Office of the Principal Legal Advisor was consulted. The agency's chief counsel was also consulted and the arrest was approved Dec. 5.

Sanchez was arrested the next day.

During the final weeks of President George W. Bush's administration, ICE was criticized for delaying the arrest of President Barack Obama's aunt, who had ignored an immigration judge's order to leave the country several years earlier after her asylum claim was denied. She subsequently won the right to stay in the United States after an earlier deportation order, and there was no evidence of involvement by the White House.

In that case, the Homeland Security Department had imposed an unusual directive days before the 2008 election requiring high-level approval before federal agents nationwide could arrest fugitive immigrants including Zeituni Onyango, the half-sister of Obama's late father. The directive from ICE expressed concerns about "negative media or congressional interest," according to a copy of that directive obtained by AP. The department lifted the immigration order weeks later.

Michigan Football: Will Taylor Lewan's Return Influence 5-Star RB's Decision?

Say what you will about the recruiting race in the Big Ten, but in terms of affecting a team's title hopes in 2013, the Michigan Wolverines pulled off the biggest recruiting heist in the nation when Taylor Lewan decided to come back for his senior year. How many other teams can say they added an immediately All-American caliber tackle to their expected 2013 roster?

Of course, recruiting is a longer game than just what happens in the first season of the recruits' collegiate career, and most recruits won't even play a down in their very first year on campus. So in terms of the guys actually putting pen to paper to commit to schools?Michigan included?these signings are more about 2016 and 2017 than 2013.

Still, Lewan's return is enormous for Michigan, and it's especially so for anyone who's going to be a direct beneficiary of his return by carrying the ball behind him. Devin Gardner's going to be kept more upright as a result of Lewan's return, and whoever makes up Michigan's rotation at tailback will likely rush for more yards now that Lewan's back than if the Wolverines were forced to go with an inexperienced left tackle.

Uncommitted tailback Derrick Green, a 5-star prospect out of Richmond, Virginia, could very well be one of those beneficiaries. Green is down to Michigan, Tennessee and Auburn for his choice of colleges to attend, and Michigan's a strong contender to land his services.

Green could very well play as a true freshman, especially if Fitz Toussaint is slow to recover from a major leg injury suffered against Iowa near the end of the 2012 season. Michigan is rather light in the backfield behind Toussaint, with bruiser Thomas Rawls and sophomore Justice Hayes being the only other Wolverines to return who played meaningful minutes at RB in 2012 (Drake Johnson, a middling recruit from the 2012 class, redshirted last year).

We do know Green is looking forward to playing as a true freshman; he told the Detroit Free Press that the prospect of doing so is one of the reasons he's considering Michigan as a destination. He would have a major chance to succeed right away, and his combination of size (6'0", 220 pounds) and speed (a slightly dubious 4.36 40-yard dash) means he's physically ready to carry a collegiate workload on the ground.

That being said, Green's got a four-year career at Michigan to be concerned about, so if offensive linemen are what will drive him to commit to the Wolverines (and for a tailback, that is very smart logic), it's going to be less about Taylor Lewan and more about the linemen in this class and 2012.?

In that class and this, Michigan is investing heavily in its offensive line, which promises good tidings for Green and any other running back who will eventually make his way to Ann Arbor. Kyle Kalis is the crown jewel of the 2012 class, a 5-star lineman who was under consideration for immediate playing time before eventually redshirting. Michigan added three other offensive linemen in the 2012 class, all of them being 4-star prospects according to Rivals.com.

But Brady Hoke was only getting started. Hoke boasts seven offensive line commitments for the 2013 class, with five earning four stars from Rivals.com and two already enrolled in school. Assuming no late movement from anyone involved, that's 11 offensive linemen within a year of Green in eligibility, and Hoke's almost certainly going to be able to craft a strong front five for Green from that group alone.

So yes, it's possible Taylor Lewan's return will bring Derrick Green to Ann Arbor. However, it's more likely that Green's fellow 2013 classmates will do so, because they're the ones who would be plowing the way for him as his career progresses.

Thirty percent of teen girls report meeting offline with someone they met online

Jan. 14, 2013 ? A new study highlights the risk that female teenagers face when they go online -- a risk heightened for teen girls who have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The study, published in the journal Pediatrics, shows that 30 percent of teenagers reported having offline meetings with people they have met on the Internet and whose identity had not been fully confirmed prior to the meeting.

"These meetings may have been benign, but for an adolescent girl to do it is dangerous," says Jennie Noll, PhD, a psychologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the study's lead author.

Moreover, abused or neglected teenage girls were more likely to present themselves online in a sexually provocative way than other teenage girls. Research shows that high-risk, online profiles are more likely to lead to offline meetings, according to Dr. Noll, director of research in behavioral medicine and clinical psychology at Cincinnati Children's.

"If someone is looking for a vulnerable teen to start an online sexual discourse, they will more likely target someone who presents herself provocatively," she says. "Maltreatment poses a unique risk for online behavior that may set the stage for harm."

Dr. Noll and her colleagues studied 251 adolescent girls between the ages of 14 and 17. About half were victims of abuse or neglect.

If families installed Internet filtering software at home, it made no difference in the association between maltreatment and high-risk Internet behaviors, says Dr. Noll. These behaviors included intentionally seeking adult content, provocative self-presentations on social networking sites and receiving sexual advances online. On the other hand, "high quality parenting" and parental monitoring helped reduce the association between adolescent risk factors and these online behaviors, she says.

The new study is part of a larger body of Dr. Noll's work on high-risk Internet behaviors. In a previous, pilot study, she asked girls whether they have ever met anyone offline after meeting them online and heard some "chilling" stories," she says.

"One patient told a story about a guy who started texting her a lot, and he seemed 'really nice.' So she agreed to meet him at the mall, she got in his car, they drove somewhere and he raped her."

The Pediatrics study was supported by a grant (R01HD052533) from the National Institutes of Health. Her continuing work is funded by a five-year, $3.7 million federal grant to gain deeper data about high risk Internet behaviors.
